Fuel for Thought · Free · Every Monday

Five minutes each week that might change how you cook

A free weekly newsletter for chefs who feed athletes, and chefs who want to. One idea, one question, one thing to try. Then back to work.

What you get

Join the chefs building a standard for a job that never had one

Every Monday you'll get one idea, one question, and one thing to try that week.

It's written for people who cook for a living, not for academics. Whether you're already in a training ground kitchen or working out how to get into one, it's the same job and the same standard. No fluff, no filler, no recipes you'll never make.

Idea

One idea that changes how you look at your kitchen.

Question

One question worth sitting with on the drive home.

Action

One thing to try before your next service, wherever you cook.

Roles

Jobs in elite sport are rarely advertised where chefs are looking. When one crosses our desk, you'll see it here first.

Who writes it

Written by Dr Nessan Costello

Ness is a Sport and Exercise Nutrition Registered Nutritionist who has spent the last decade feeding elite footballers. Leeds Rhinos, where his PhD looked at how much collision athletes need to eat to recover. Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa. Chelsea, where they won the Conference League and the Club World Cup. He now works in Saudi Arabia, with back-to-back Asian Champions League titles.

He is also the co-founder of the Performance Chef Academy, and the co-author of published research surveying head chefs across elite UK football.

Every one of those successes depended on a chef. That's what this newsletter is about.
